We're lucky to run two of the finest canyons in Montenegro, and one of the questions we hear most often is simple: Nevidio or Grabovica? Both sit in the same wild corner of the Durmitor region, both deliver crystal-clear mountain water and unforgettable scenery, and both come with everything you need to take part. Yet they offer very different days out. Here's an honest comparison to help you pick the one that suits you best.

Nevidio: our iconic flagship

Nevidio is the canyon that made our name, and it's world-famous for good reason. Carved by the Komarnica River deep in the Durmitor massif, it's a dramatic, full-day adventure through narrow passages that sometimes close in to less than a metre wide, beneath cliffs that soar up to around 400 metres. The active route runs for roughly 1,700 metres and takes about four hours of canyoning, usually from around 11:00 to 15:00.

There's no abseiling here — instead you swim, jump and ride natural water slides downstream. It's the more demanding of our two trips, but it's still suitable for anyone with moderate fitness and basic swimming ability. The season runs roughly from June to September, and the price is €120 per person. For many visitors, Nevidio is a genuine bucket-list experience.

Grabovica: the rare spring-only gem

Just above Nevidio lies Grabovica, a hidden treasure that only a few people get to enjoy. It's a spring-only canyon, which means it can only be run during the snowmelt — roughly from May to late June — when there's enough water flowing through. At about 1 kilometre, it's shorter than Nevidio, but it's wide, sunny and dotted with beautiful natural pools.

That makes Grabovica far gentler and especially welcoming for beginners and families. A trip takes around two to three hours, we ask for a minimum of two participants, and the price is €100 per person. If you want a relaxed introduction to canyoning in a warm, open setting, this is the one.

The key differences at a glance

  • Season: Nevidio runs roughly June–September; Grabovica only during the spring snowmelt, about May–late June.
  • Length: Nevidio is about 1,700 m of dramatic narrows; Grabovica is around 1 km, wide and open.
  • Difficulty: Nevidio is more demanding; Grabovica is gentle and beginner- and family-friendly.
  • Duration: Nevidio is a full-day, ~4-hour adventure; Grabovica takes about 2–3 hours.
  • Price: Nevidio is €120 per person; Grabovica is €100 per person (minimum 2 people).

Whichever you choose, the essentials are the same: every trip includes full professional equipment, a licensed guide, insurance, and photos and videos of your adventure.

How to choose

The first thing to consider is when you're visiting. If you're here in spring, Grabovica is on the table and well worth grabbing while the water is running. In high summer, Grabovica has usually dried up, so Nevidio is the canyon to aim for.

Next, think about experience and intensity. If it's your first time, or you're bringing children or a more relaxed group, Grabovica's gentle pools and sunny stretches make it the easier, friendlier choice. If you want the bigger day — more time in the water, narrow canyon corridors and that sense of a true expedition — Nevidio is the obvious pick. And if your goal is simply to tick off something iconic and world-famous, nothing quite matches the pull of Nevidio.

Still unsure? That's exactly what we're here for. Tell us when you're coming, who's in your group and how much of a challenge you're after, and we'll happily recommend the right canyon for you.
